Position Summary
The Machinist – Level III is a senior-level CNC machinist responsible for independent setup, operation, inspection, and optimization of 5-axis CNC machining processes. This role also serves as a technical leader and trainer, supporting apprentice and junior machinists while upholding Manes Machine’s quality, safety, and performance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years CNC machining experience in aerospace manufacturing (or equivalent education/experience)
- 2+ years 5-axis CNC setup and operation
- Proven ability to independently set up and operate CNC machines
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T comprehension
- Proficient with precision inspection tools
(micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.) - Experience with manufacturing processes, tooling, and daily machine maintenance
- Ability to train and mentor Apprentice, Level I, and Level II machinists
- Ability to define problems, analyze data, and implement solutions
- Solid mid-level math skills (fractions, decimals, basic arithmetic)
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Positive, solutions-oriented “can-do” attitude
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years CNC machining experience in aerospace
- 4+ years 5-axis CNC setup and operation
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, MIS)
- Skilled trade certification from accredited technical or vocational program
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC machines to produce aerospace components meeting all quality and engineering requirements
- Interpret blueprints, travelers, specifications, and work instructions
- Perform in-process and final inspections per quality system requirements
- Train and mentor junior machinists; document training progress
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Perform daily machine maintenance and report equipment issues
- Use presses, drills, tooling, and assembly equipment as required
- Safely handle paints, sealants, adhesives, and chemicals per SDS and PPE requirements
- Identify and support creation of work instructions and setup documentation
- Actively identify and implement process improvements
- Use company MIS systems for job tracking and data collection
- Promote and model company core values at all times
- Support other departments and perform additional duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a plant environment to include moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. Safety Glasses must be worn in all required areas. Safety Toe (Steel or Kevlar) shoes or boots must be worn at all times, while working in the manufacturing areas. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, ear protection is provided if needed.
